ABOUT THE TEAM

KEVIN BROCK

Kevin has been with EIRL, on and off, since 2001 when he re-formed the competition in the current guise and is looking forward to it's tenth season next year. He has served as President for all but three years when Matt Danby capably took the helm and was able to step in when the commitments we all face were too much. He's seen many a crisis in EIRL, and although in the early years that usually led to him threatening to resign, the second stint in charge has seen him stronger and more able to cope and negotiate around the demands that the Presidency brings. In 2009, following the "twittergate" saga, he offered coaches who wished to stand against him the chance to do so. No expressions of interest have so far been offered.

Within EIRL he has coached several teams, most recently the European Vagrants but has only ever been a Division One Grand Final runner-up and won the Ellery Hanley Trophy in 2008.

His main rivalry tends to be against Theo Kamis' Rotterdam Rhinos, a history that stretches all the way back to that 2003 Grand Final when his Widnes Chemics side were beaten in a thrilling Grand Final in extra-time (the game is the example on the FAQ page of the site).

Outside of EIRL he works for the local authority as an Assistant Manager for a scheme supporting Adults with Learning Disabilities, supports Salford City Reds in Super League and Stockport County in Football. He likes most sports, except golf which bores him to tears and has a very varied musical taste but is not much of a film watcher.

PATRICK CUNNINGHAM

Patrick has been involved with the EIRL since 2002 and has been the one and only coach for the Monte Carlo Martinis. After spending several seasons in the old second division, we were promoted after losing the second division Grand Final. Other than our promotion from the second division, the only team achievement is a minor championship (in our year of promotion).

Outside of the EIRL, I currently live in Chicago. And, was in Philadelphia for 15-ish years. I work in the investment management business. I was primarily a soccer player growing up, and even played some in college. I first became associated with rugby (union) via some college friends who played "club" in college. A female friend (but not that kind) was awarded the title of Rugby Queen one season. (Not the kind of award you would want your girlfriend to win though. Think of it was the female rugby groupee that is most likely to out drink one of the rugby players!). I got my first taste of rugby league from some english guys who also played on my post-college adult soccer team. We would play touch rules. (I was a winger). Now officially retired from soccer & rugby league. While in Philadelphia, I supported the Glen Mills Bulls of the American National Rugby League.

DAVE WILSON

Started playing Eirl in 2007 when taking the helm of the then Helsinki Bears. The team changed and moved for the 2008 season to Gibralter Rockies. The team so far has no honours to talk about, but since taking over the team has moved from being a bottom club in Division one to being a force in the Premiership.

Best achivement to date was a semi final place in this year Ellery Hanley Trophy.  Main rivalry is with Theo (Rotterdam) and Neil (Tel Aviv). Took over as Training Commisoner for 2009 season and enjoy the game.

Outside of EIRL I am a golf nut (Hey Kev Fancy a game ! - KB, no thanks!), Play off a handicap of 4 , and captain the 3 Counties team in Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. Member of 2 golf clubs Yeovil and Wheathill. Rugby Interests ... Ex Union player having played at Sittingbourne as a colt, moved to Maidstone, then on to Blackheath and then to Bedford.

Captained the Bedford Rugby League team for one season, but the team was new and didn’t do very well as it was all based on union players. Was asked to attend a trial at Halifax back in 1998 but due to injuries was unable to make it.

Retired from rugby now after 3 serious Knee injuries but have the odd run out for local teams in charity matches. Work wise currently working as a HGV driver, but my main job is Bodyguarding, worked in Dubai for 5 years as a personal bodyguard to The Royal Family.
