EIRL 2005

Welcome to the Fifth Anniversary Website of the European Interactive Rugby League.

Congratulations to Vienna Mustangs and York Vikings who are the new EIRL Premiership and Division One Champions.

Vienna Mustangs put in a stunning second half performance to beat Monte Carlo Martinis 30-4 in the Premiership Grand Final. A four try blitz in 11 minutes took them to the title ahead of a skilful and determined Monte Carlo team. The Martinis have been an unmistakable success in their first season of top flight rugby, and will no doubt be a force for years to come.

York Vikings 16-6 victory over CAU Madrid XIII mean they head into the Premiership next year as Division One Champions. In the past it might have been a daunting task to step up a league, but the success of Monte Carlo and Galway must surely inspire the Vikings to consolidate their position in the elite in 2006. Madrid will also join them in the Premiership, as they replace fellow Spanish side Barcelona Celtic.

The Premiership Reserves Grand Final was won by Westmoreland Hawks, whilst Moscow Stars took the Division One Reserves title.

There was also success for Rome Gladiators and Saint Maur Beavers on the last day of the season as they won silverware in the form of the Mike Stephenson Shield and Jim Sullivan Bowl respectively.

So we're done for another year. The Fifth Anniversary Season of EIRL has produced some classic moments and was arguably the closest in it's history. With the competition hopefully expanding to accommodate two more teams next year now is the time to get yourself on the waiting list and join the best competition on the web.
